PMD-Compensation Using DOP-Optimization
With the emerging 40G technology, a large amount of fiber links will not be usable because of their high PMD level. A maximum PMD (average DGD) in the order of only 3ps can be accepted since the instantaneous DGD level can be up to 9ps in that case.
Optical PMD compensation is an attractive solution to enable such fiber links for 40G transmission. Adaptif's advanced technology for measuring and controlling polarization supplies all building blocks which are needed to build a high-speed PMD compensator:
